Pelican tops state-ranked Hawley in high energy game
In front of a packed house, the Pelican Rapids girls basketball team won for a fourth straight time on Thursday night Feb. 16, as they knocked off the Hawley Nuggets by a score of 49-45 in Pelican Rapids.
With Hawley ranked 5th in Class AA, the gym had a playoff season-like energy. The colorfully-costumed “Super Fans,” filling nearly a quarter of the seating, and their wild antics further motivated the crowd. Valkyrie dancers barely miss final round in ‘Kick’ at state
The Pelican Rapids High School dance team barely missed the final round of the state tournament, finishing seventh in the “Kick” competition.
The Valkyries finished just out of the running in Kick, as six teams continued to the final round.

Pelican outscores Breckenridge 87-54; Halbakken scores 26
The Pelican Rapids boys' basketball team went on the road Feb. 17 and notched a 87-54 victory over the Breckenridge Cowboys.
Pelican held a 47-24 halftime lead as Luke Halbakken scored 24 of his 26 points over the first eighteen minutes of play. Halbakken also snagged eight rebounds. read entire story. . . .

Hawley overrun by Vikings, 82-66
The Pelican Rapids boys basketball team completed a regular season sweep of rival Hawley, with an 82-66 win over the Nuggets on Feb. 14.
The Vikings notched their 11th straight win.

Lady Vikings defeat Ulen-Hitterdal 71-38
The Pelican Rapids girls basketball team improved their season record to 17-5 on Monday night, Feb. 13, with a 71-38 victory over Ulen-Hitterdal.
“This was a solid victory where every player had an opportunity to play on the basketball court,” said coach Brian Korf.

Viking’s team done for the season with loss to NYM
Team focuses on individual sections
The Vikings wrestling team entered their final stages of the 2011-12 wrestling season last week, being eliminated from the playoffs as a team February 14. “We knew we had a tough road ahead of us,” said head coach Harold Holt.
The Vikings were seeded 9th out of the 10 teams in the section. The one bright spot, they beat #8 seed Wadena-Deer Creek 48-24. “Both of the teams had holes in the line up,” remarked Holt. “We were able to read entire story. . . .

C Squad boys win at Breck
The C squad Boy’s basketball team played one of their best games of the season in getting a win at Breckenridge Feb 17 with a score of 49-39.
The 9th graders led by 27-25 at the half as neither team could get the upper hand.
