CITY OF PELICAN RAPIDS, MINNESOTA Body Worn Cameras

April 18, 2024

The Pelican Rapids Police Department will be implementing body worn cameras for our licensed officers. Body worn cameras are devices that record interactions between community members (public, suspects, victims, witnesses, prisoners, etc.) and law enforcement.

The devices will be used to record audio and video and will be worn by uniformed officers. Body worn cameras will document the behavior of both citizens and officers. Body worn cameras have been shown to reduce civilian complaints, increase accountability and increase transparency.

Minnesota State Statute requires that any law enforcement agency implementing a body worn camera program must accept public comment. The public comment may occur in person at the posted meeting, electronically or by mail. The Pelican Rapids City Council will be reviewing the Pelican Rapids Police Department policy on Body Worn Camera’s on April 30th at the 4:30 p.m. city council meeting. The meeting will take place at Pelican Rapids City Hall, 315 N Broadway, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572.
