Biking across the globe? Not many can say it’s their preferred method of traveling, but Swiss couple Rita Staub and Simon Greuter have been peddling their way through Europe and now entered the Western Hemisphere.
On Aug. 6, the couple stopped at Pelican Library for a brief rest and charged their solar-powered tandem bike before continuing their journey to Canada.
When asked why they chose the bike, Rita explained that they wanted to minimize their environmental impact. β€œWe want to see the world, not disturb it. We want to document our journey so that people back home can see, and we want to do our part to leave behind a world that our children can see as well.”
The couple camp at night and stop at libraries to charge their bike and use Wi-Fi. β€œLibraries are our friends!”
Rita smiled, expressing her gratitude for the welcoming atmosphere and helpful staff they’ve encountered at libraries throughout their journey.
Having completed a bike trip around Europe seven years ago, the couple embarked on the ambitious trek around the world in December 2022.Β
β€œWe don’t have a timeline for finishing nor are we in a hurry,” said Rita, β€œWe just want to live in the moment and capture beautiful scenes and memories.”
