The front page of the Pelican Rapids Press told the story of the tragic robbery and murder at a gas station on the north end of the town’s business district.
The killer, Donald Fuhrman, had an apparent history of mental illness, and had recently been released from the Fergus Falls State Hospital. β€œ(The killer’s) planning of the hold-up or rather lack of planning would appear to show irrational thinking on his part,” reported the Press Dec. 23, 1954.
