The suspension bridge has become an iconic element in the Pelican Rapids โ€œcityscapeโ€ over the past 50 years. Even wedding photographers have found it a unique visual backdrop, as illustrated in this photo from 2019.
The bridge was a major project for the Pelican Rapids Area Rotary Club in 1975. Much of the funding for the bridge project were generated over the years, at the annual Rotary turkey barbequeโ€”the clubโ€™s biggest annual event.
The turkey feed continues to this day, and is scheduled July 12, during Pelican Fest.
