How the Pelican Rapids Press News Quiz Works

What is it?

Every week during the Contest Month, we publish a five-question News Quiz on our website. All questions are based on real stories from that week's Pelican Rapids Press. It's a fun way to test how well you're keeping up with local news—and you could win great prizes.

Who can enter?

Any legal resident of the United States or the District of Columbia who is 18 or older. One quiz entry per person per week—that's it!

How do I enter?

Read that week's Pelican Rapids Press stories, take the online quiz, answer all five questions, and give us your name, email, and phone number. Your submission is your contest entry.

How are winners chosen?

Each correct answer is worth 1 point. At the end of the month, we'll add up everyone's total points. The person with the most correct answers wins the Grand Prize. The next three highest scorers each win a Runner-Up Prize. If there's a tie, we'll do a random drawing to pick the winner.

What do I win?

Grand Prize: 3 months of free Pelican Rapids Press Print + Online & One branded tote bag
Runner-Up Prizes (3): One branded tote bag each

When will I hear if I won?

We'll email and/or call you within 10 days after the Contest Month ends. You'll have 7 days to confirm you want your prize.

Can I enter multiple times?

You can take the quiz once each week, but only one entry per week counts. If you submit multiple entries in a single week, only your first one will be scored.

Will my name be published?

Yes! With your permission (which you give by entering), we'll publish the winners' names and towns in the Pelican Rapids Press and on our website and social media.

What about my personal information?

We only use your contact info to run the contest and tell you if you won. We won't share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.

Official Contest Rules

The Pelican Rapids Press (“Sponsor”), located in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, sponsors and administers this News Quiz Contest (“Contest”).

1. CONTEST SPONSOR AND ADMINISTRATOR

The Contest is sponsored and administered by:

2. ELIGIBILITY

2.1 The Contest is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees of the Sponsor, their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling), and individuals living in the same household as Sponsor employees are ineligible to participate.
2.2 Void where prohibited by law. Contest participants must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

3. CONTEST PERIOD

3.1 The first monthly Contest period (“Contest Month”) runs from February 5, 2026 through March 4, 2026 (approximately four weeks).
3.2 Each weekly quiz will be available online for the entire week of publication. Quiz submissions received after the end of each Contest Month will not be accepted.
3.3 Future Contest Months may be announced separately with updated rules.

4. QUIZ FORMAT AND ENTRY

4.1 Each week during the Contest Month, the Sponsor will publish a five-question online News Quiz. All questions are based on stories published in that week’s edition of the Pelican Rapids Press (print and/or online).
4.2 To enter, participants must:
(a) Complete the online News Quiz by submitting answers to all five questions;
(b) Provide accurate name, email address, and phone number;
(c) Indicate acceptance of these Contest Rules.
4.3 Limit: One quiz entry per person per week. Multiple entries by the same individual in a single week will result in disqualification of all but the first submitted entry. Automated, fraudulent, or duplicate entries will be disqualified at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
4.4 Entries become the property of the Sponsor and may not be returned.

5. HOW WINNERS ARE DETERMINED

5.1 Scoring: Each correct answer is worth one (1) point. Each weekly quiz is worth a maximum of five (5) points.
5.2 Monthly Total: At the conclusion of the Contest Month, the Sponsor will calculate each participant’s total points earned across all weekly quizzes completed during that month.
5.3 Grand Prize Winner: The participant with the highest cumulative score for the month wins the Grand Prize.
5.4 Runners-Up: The three (3) participants with the next-highest cumulative scores are designated runners-up and win the Runner-Up Prizes.
5.5 Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie for the Grand Prize or any Runner-Up Prize position, tied participants will be selected via random drawing. The Sponsor will conduct the drawing in a fair and transparent manner, and all tied participants will have an equal chance of winning.
5.6 Verification: The Sponsor reserves the right to verify the eligibility, entry validity, and accuracy of all quiz responses and winner information before awarding prizes.

6. PRIZES

6.1 Grand Prize: Three (3) months of free "Print + Online" home delivery and digital access, to the Pelican Rapids Press, plus one Pelican Rapids Press branded tote bag. Approximate retail value: $37.95.
6.2 Runner-Up Prizes (3): One (1) Pelican Rapids Press branded tote bag each. Approximate retail value: $12.95 each.
6.3 Prize Details:
(a) Prizes are non-transferable and may not be exchanged for cash or alternate prizes.
(b) If a winner is unable to accept a prize, the next highest-scoring participant will be offered the prize.
(c) Winners are responsible for any applicable taxes on prize value.
(d) The Sponsor makes no warranty regarding prize quality or fitness.

7. WINNER NOTIFICATION

7.1 Notification: Winners will be notified via email and/or phone using the contact information provided during quiz entry within ten (10) business days following the end of the Contest Month.
7.2 Response Requirement: Winners must respond and confirm acceptance of their prize within seven (7) days of notification. Failure to respond will result in forfeiture of the prize.
7.3 Prize Delivery: Prizes will be delivered or made available within thirty (30) days of winner confirmation. For winners outside the Pelican Rapids area, Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, provide prizes by mail.

8. PUBLICITY AND PRIVACY

8.1 Publication of Winners: By entering the Contest, participants grant the Sponsor the right to publish their name, town/city, state, and prize information in the Pelican Rapids Press (print edition), on its website, and on its social media channels without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law.
8.2 Privacy: The Sponsor will collect and use participant contact information only for the purpose of administering the Contest and contacting winners. Information will be kept confidential and will not be shared with third parties except as required by law or Contest administration.
8.3 Email Communications: Participants may receive occasional email communications about Contest results and future Sponsor promotions unless they opt out by emailing office@pelicanrapidspress.com or sending a written request to The Press at 29 W Mill Ave, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572.

9. DISQUALIFICATION

The Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any participant who:
(a) Violates these Contest Rules;
(b) Submits false or fraudulent information;
(c) Attempts to circumvent Contest mechanics through unauthorized means (e.g., bots, multiple accounts, data manipulation);
(d) Engages in abusive, threatening, or harassing conduct toward the Sponsor or other participants at any time (past, future, or present);
(e) Is determined by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion, to have engaged in conduct contrary to fair and ethical Contest administration.
Disqualified participants forfeit all prizes and eligibility to participate in future contests facilitated by the Pelican Rapids Press.

10. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES AND LIABILITY

10.1 The Contest is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. The Sponsor is not liable for:
(a) Technical failures (website downtime, form errors, email delivery failures);
(b) Lost, late, or misdirected entries;
(c) Unauthorized access to or alteration of entry information;
(d) Any personal injury or property damage arising from participation or prize use.
10.2 The Sponsor is not responsible for any tax liability or consequences related to prize acceptance.

11. MODIFICATIONS AND TERMINATION

11.1 The Sponsor reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the Contest if:
(a) Technical problems, fraud, or other factors impair Contest integrity;
(b) Participation is substantially affected by war, terrorism, natural disaster, or other force majeure;
(c) Applicable law is changed in a manner that affects the Contest.
11.2 Any modification will be announced publicly via the Sponsor’s website and/or social media.

12. GOVERNING LAW AND COMPLIANCE

12.1 This Contest is governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to conflicts of law. Participants agree that any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state courts located in Otter Tail County, Minnesota.
12.2 This Contest is intended to comply with Minnesota Statute § 325F.755 (promotional contests) and is conducted in a fair and transparent manner in accordance with Minnesota consumer protection laws.

13. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY

13.1 No purchase of the Pelican Rapids Press is necessary to enter or win the Contest. A purchase will not improve your chances of winning.
13.2 Familiarity with news content published in the Pelican Rapids Press is required to answer quiz questions accurately, but participants may access relevant content via any lawful means.
